The total score is between 400 and 1600, whereas individual sections, namely Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math, score between 200 and 800. Scores are derived from raw scores, which reflect the number of questions answered correctly. Importantly, there is no penalty for incorrect answers on the SAT.
SAT scores are also reported as percentiles to give students and colleges a view of how a student's performance compares to others, including other SAT takers, and a cross-sectional representation of 11th and 12th graders. The total score – ranging from 400 to 1600 – aggregates test results:
